Information for Renters

Canoe Pond Village INFORMATION for Renters
WELCOME to the neighborhood!

A few “get started” things to keep in mind:

Please drive very slowly on our roads. There are lots of walkers, young and old, who need extra time to get out of the way of passing cars. Because there are no sidewalks, please be especially courteous. It is most helpful, also, if vehicles are parked in driveways so they do not obstruct the flow of traffic, compromise access to driveways on either side of the street, or block sightlines for walkers.

Garbage and Recycling:

We are required by state law to recycle as much as possible. The following can be recycled: clean glass, tin, aluminum and plastic containers. The Brewster Recycling Station also accepts all clean newspapers and flattened cardboard including paperboard cereal type boxes. Vegetable, fruit and food scraps (i.e., flowers, breads, cereals, coffee, coffee filters, tea bags, egg shells, paper napkins - NO SHELLS) can be composted at the Recycling Station. Place trash in yellow pay-as-you-throw bags available at local markets. See Town of Brewster website for more details: www.town.brewster.ma.us.

If your landlord provides curbside garbage pick-up, covered barrels may be left by the curb for only one day – 24 hours including before and after pick-up. Please do not leave unsightly overflowing barrels as we have many mischievous critters who love to explore, exploit, and scatter contents which is unpleasant and potentially dangerous for us all.

Use of Upper Mill Pond:

You are welcome to use the common area at Upper Mill Pond, a dock and small sandy beach, accessible by a path on John Wing Lane marked by a post and signs. Please observe the following:

  • No dogs are allowed per order of Town of Brewster from May 1 – October 1.
  • No cinder block moorings are allowed for anchoring sailboats, kayaks, or other floatation devices.
  • Please do not use others’ moorings. Contact the Town of Brewster for permits and instructions. NO permits are necessary for floatation devices that are moored for less than 14 days.
  • No boats or other floatation devices are allowed directly in front of the beach area, obstructing the use of said area by residents and other guests. Kayaks and paddleboards are moored to the left of the landing and sailboats to the right.
  • Please be respectful and courteous of others by removing trash and keeping this area clean for the enjoyment of all.

Septic Systems and caring for our ponds:

  • Because each home in the development has a septic system, please do not use bleach in the washer. Septic waters filter underground into the ponds.
  • Please use septic safe toilet paper.
  • Please do not flush baby wipes or sanitary products, which might clog the waste system.
